DuPont Co. is planning a $25.5 million expansion at a Richmond, Va., plant to boost production of its Tyvek HomeWrap product.
The expansion will add about 50 jobs, bringing DuPont's employee count in Richmond to about 3,000.
Tyvek HomeWrap is a spun-bonded polyolefin commonly used at construction sites. According to the company's Web site, the material provides a protective layer under a home's siding, and over the sheathing, that resists air infiltration and water intrusion yet allows moisture vapor to diffuse through the sheet, helping to prevent mold and mildew buildup, and wood rot.
Officials of Wilmington-based DuPont confirmed the expansion but declined comment.
