DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers has launched Fusabond E EC-603D, a compatibilizer for users of recycled polyethylene.
The company is marketing the material to manufacturers of industrial packaging and plastic lumber, as well as blow molders, injection molders and compounders.
Compared to traditional grafted modifiers, the proprietary copolymer provides several important benefits, according to Wilmington-based DuPont:
* It has a wider operating window for contaminants such as ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, moisture and zinc stearate lubricants. This enables manufacturers to accept a higher mix in recycle streams, which are less expensive than those with cleaner reclaim.
* Test data show improved impact strength of wet blends and blends with lubricant.
* It helps reduce die buildup on the manufacturing equipment by helping to incorporate polar components into the polymer matrix.
DuPont is testing the material for systems containing fiberglass or nylon, said Megan O'Brien, marketing manager, DuPont Industrial Polymers.
