The leadership of the Society of Plastics Engineers' 2-year-old technical advisory board is passing from a leading resin expert to an authority on plastics processing, as Peter Bemis is the new chairman.
Bemis is co-owner and executive vice president of injection molder Bemis Manufacturing Co. and president of its contract group. He replaces the advisory board's founding chairman, Kurt Swogger, who is Dow Chemical Co.'s vice president of research and development for plastics and chemicals.
The society announced the change May 7 at its annual conference, SPE-Antec, in Charlotte.
Swogger served a 2-year term as chairman of the advisory board, which was launched in 2004. The board's goal is to help SPE spot future trends in technology and business. Swogger will remain on the board, said Susan Oderwald, executive director of Brookfield, Conn.-based SPE.
Bemis is going into the Plastics Hall of Fame during the upcoming NPE 2006 show in Chicago. Bemis Manufacturing is based in Sheboygan Falls, Wis.
