While sponsoring the technical conference at NPE 2006, Dow Chemical Co. also will be introducing a new line of thermoplastic olefins.
The new TPOs are designed for use in cut-sheet thermoforming for applications such as all-terrain vehicles, kayaks, bath surrounds, marine articles, appliance covers and large automotive parts.
Officials with Midland, Mich.-based Dow said the materials have much better sag performance than previous TPO grades. Sag performance previously had been an obstacle to using TPOs in large thermoformed parts, officials said.
The improved performance is a result of a combination of Dow's polypropylene and rubber technologies.
The combination has created a broader processing window for thermoformers, officials added.
After not exhibiting at the 2003 NPE show, Dow in 2006 has opted to sponsor the event's five-day technical conference, which will include presentations from Dow on energy management and new elastomer technology.
Dow also will host a customer center at Chicago's McCormick Place, June 19-23, during NPE 2006.
Dow officials said the technical sponsorship is the first in NPE's history.
