Dynisco Instruments (Booth N5016) introduces its $85,000 polymer test instrument Rheometer VTM for full characterizations of resins in powder, pellet or sheet form in a single process. VTM stands for viscosity, transition and modulus.
``The VTM has the ability to measure a full spectrum of polymers in one instrument,'' said Keith Goble, product manager of Dynisco polymer test products. ``We can measure a melt viscosity, drop to a transition point where it changes to a solid and measure in the solid state for an indication of impact resistance.''
The VTM represents an extension of a rubber polymer analyzer that Alpha Technologies US LP of Akron, Ohio, developed. Dynisco acquired Alpha in September 2004. In early 2005, polymer engineers began working to extend the dynamic range and measure lower polymer viscosities of interest to plastics processors.
Separately, Dynisco introduced the Flite-Scan sensor for dynamic measurement of the distance between a barrel and the static sensor. The technology is useful for injection or blow molders or extruders in measuring wear in advance of a maintenance shutdown.
The project began in December with Dynisco collaborating with screw manufacturer Glycon Corp. (Booth N5915) of Tecumseh, Mich., and system integrator RJG Inc. (Booth S541) of Traverse City, Mich.
The company has conducted tests in Glycon's laboratories, said Matthew Carrara, Dynisco vice president of sales.
The system costs $5,000-$20,000.
Dynisco has a new Melt Monitor line of pressure sensors with an integrated digital display and, as an option, a built-in temperature measurement sensor. Dynisco sold the first unit in January, said Douglas Joy, Dynisco vice president of marketing. The models cost $695-$1,500.
Dynisco has a three-model line of pressure transmitters from the Fieldbus Foundation of Austin, Texas, for processing control and monitoring. The Fieldbus concept is replacing HART, for highway adjustable remote transmitter, in the process industry. Dynisco installed its first Fieldbus in December, Joy said. Cost starts at $1,500.
Dynisco features its latest-generation LCR7001 capillary rheometer for studying the viscosity of molten polymers. In a new feature, a temperature ramp mode measures melt viscosity as a function of temperature in a single test.
Dynisco of Franklin, Mass., is a business of investment group Audax Group of Boston.
