CHICAGO (June 29, 10:30 a.m. EDT) — Chinese manufacturer CN Mould & Plastic Ltd. is launching a $5 million expansion that will triple its manufacturing capacity, including giving it 180 injection presses when it opens at the end of this year.
The privately owned company, which started in 1998, is seeing increased demand for its products from electronics and mobile phone manufacturers like IBM, Motorola and Verizon, said Tony Huang, sales and marketing manager for the firm, located in Shenzhen, just across the border from Hong Kong.
CN is building a 280,000-square-foot factory in Shenzhen, six times as large as its current plant, and plans to have 2,000 employees and 360 injection presses there eventually, he said.
The company currently has 400 workers and 60 presses but will triple that as soon as it opens, with plans to grow beyond that quickly, he said. Huang spoke during a June 19 interview at NPE.
The firm said it had $8 million in sales last year, with about $2 million of that coming from mold making. The firm also has 20 engineers in its research and development department and performs secondary operations like welding and assembly.
CN was started by Peter Huang, who worked as a mold designer in the United States before opening the firm.
