Since the K 2004 show in Germany, Husky Injection Molding Ltd. has sold 14 of its large-tonnage Quadloc machines with the Tandem option, for molding two-component parts, according to Jeff MacDonald, vice president of marketing.
Tandem allows two molds to run on one injection molding machine, doubling the output. Husky has sold most of the Tandem Quadlocs to the automotive industry, mainly to mold door panels, MacDonald said at NPE 2006 in Chicago.
One advantage of the press is it can mold the left-hand and right-hand door panels simultaneously.
Husky had offered Tandem presses for years, but at K 2004, the company launched an entirely new version of the Tandem, showing the technology on a two-platen Quadloc machine.
