CHICAGO (Aug. 21, 5 p.m. EDT) — Processing Technologies Inc. showcased its new Revolution-series sheet extrusion system for inline thermoforming and roll stock production.
A key feature of the Model 5000 is modulating valves for optimal chilled water consumption, said PTI President Dana Hanson. Each roll's temperature is optimized in the setup, he added. The water system also has a quick-chill feature useful for PET. A spare water system stands by to cover for any potential water system malfunction.
The rolls have motorized vertical height adjustment to allow easy and accurate positioning. The Auto-Gap servo-hydraulic computerized gap setting ensures precision. Individual roll drives allow for precise control of surface speed. The system has a 68-inch roll face and proprietary roll finish to promote sheet release.
The system's extruder is a 5-inch, 32-1 ratio, 300-horsepower machine with water cooling. Angled approach to the nip provides quality production of resins with low hot-melt strength. Heated die lips and compound angle on the body are available for PET production. Other features include a dual-bolt continuous screen changer, a Model 90 gear pump system with static mixer and a pivoting extruder base for easy screw removal.
Hanson said his firm has begun to expand internationally. It set up a sales office in Prague, Czech Republic, in November and is branching from there to other European countries. It also has lined up sales representatives for China and Mexico, he said during NPE 2006 in Chicago.
