Comet Automation Systems Inc., which makes auxiliary equipment in Dayton, Ohio, unveiled its vision system and tiny dryer for micromolded parts:
* Mounted on an injection molding machine, the PE-300 vision system checks parts for flash, short shots, contamination or changes on the part surface. A new hand-held monitor has a 6.5-inch screen pendant and weighs less than 3 pounds. Screen resolution is six times greater than the previous model, so the PE-300 can sense ultrasmall parts or small product details, using just 0.03 second of scan time.
Comet also upgraded the product with a high-detectable camera and an infrared-light source.
* The half-liter Micro dryer was running on a Sumitomo micromolding machine at NPE 2006 in Chicago. The Micro hopper sizes range from 0.5-3 liters. Comet has combined modern compressed- air technology with a compact modular design, so the dryer can work with very small parts.
