Raytek Corp., which makes infrared temperature measurement devices, now offers motorized, remote-controlled target focus as an option on its Marathon MM Series of thermometers.
Plastics applications for the noncontact instruments include thermoforming, converting, extrusion, coating, molding, calendering, laminating, curing and drying.
The user can adjust the focus of measurement targets, either by push button at the back of the instrument, or remotely by a personal computer via a RS232/ RS485 connection, where adjustments can be seen by video. Standard fixed-focus sensors or sensors with the new variable-focus are options to choose from. Both have a focus range between 8 inches and 7 feet.
Raytek is based in Santa Cruz, Calif.
