Eric Goetz Custom Sailboats Inc., a processor of advanced polymer matrix composites, plans to build a second Bristol facility about a half-mile from its existing location.
The company has 28,000 square feet now and will add a building of 43,000 square feet for operational use around next September.
Known as Goetz Custom Boats, the firm wants to retain current work and expand its business with more emphasis on manufacturing short-run production tooling and components for other boat builders. Sales of tooling and components account for about 20 percent of current work.
With a current crew of 30, ``we want to double employment with the new work, and we have the potential to double sales'' said Vice President John Telfevan. ``We plan to keep and expand the current business in sailboats and get into powerboats.'' He did not disclose sales figures.
Equipment at the new site will include a large, six-axis, computer numerically controlled milling center, computer-controlled ovens and spray booths and advanced laser projection centers.
