Singapore-based Genometri Pte. Ltd. has developed and patented generative design technology, with a software package that can create hundreds of variations on objects in just a few hours, a task that normally takes designers weeks.
GenoForm, which currently works only with SolidWorks software, creates a genetic profile for each design and can be used to produce PET bottles and other plastic products, as well as architectural and other types of designs - sometimes generating 50 different shapes in a matter of minutes, said Chief Executive Officer Sivam Krish.
Genometri is a startup enterprise development project of Singapore's state-owned Economic Development Board and the National University of Singapore. The company spun off from NUS in 2004 and began production in early 2006, after two years of developing its software technology, Krish said.
Once a prototype design is established, the GenoForm computer-aided-design-based software will generate variations, taking into consideration manufacturing constraints, such as draft angles for molded products, and ensuring each design's manufacturing feasibility, he said.
``Basically, we are building intelligent models so that they can be easily manipulated to cover all options of specific designs, versatility in the designs and customize the designs,'' he said.
Genometri's technology can offer more than 1,000 options for a specific design, he said.
