Howard Ungerleider is the North American commercial vice president for the $6 billion base plastics business portfolio of Dow Chemical Co. that employs 170 and serves 500 customers across the continent. As such, he is responsible for leading all commercial functions across six market segments for polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and engineering thermoplastics, as well as for Dow´s Affinity-brand polyolefin plastomers, Primacor copolymers and Saran PVDC resins. He works in Houston for the Midland, Mich.-based company.
Previously Ungerleider served as Dow´s global director of integrated supply chain for plastics, performance chemicals and thermosets. In that role he assured supply to customers and Dow´s operations as well as supply chain management activities for many leading global businesses across various product portfolios. Before his supply chain activities, Ungerleider was business director for Dow´s global wire and cable compounds business unit.
He has more than 15 years in the plastics industry and worked in a variety of sales, marketing, product management and business management roles, including time in Dow´s food and specialty packaging business. He has worked in both North America and Europe, spending three years at Dow´s European headquarters in Horgen, Switzerland, where he had value center and marketing management responsibility for product brands such as Dow´s slurry high-density polyethylene resins and specialty polyolefins.
He is an active member of the board for the American Chemistry Council´s Plastics Committee and for Keep America Beautiful, a non-profit educational organization.
Ungerleider earned his bachelor´s degree from the University of Texas in Austin and a master´s degree in business administration from University of California in Los Angeles.
