New programs drive software upgrades
Dedham, Mass. - Growing interest in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma means the global market for continuous improvement hardware, software and services should more than double by the end of 2010, according to ARC Advisory Group of Dedham.
The continuous improvement market was more than $200 million in 2005, ARC said.
Research director Ralph Rio said global competition is forcing manufacturers to adopt continuous improvement programs.
``A corporation's business processes are embedded in their software systems. As they adopt lean manufacturing and Six Sigma, they increasingly need systems tailored to these programs,'' he said.
Reifenhäuser venture targets wood-plastic
Troisdorf, Germany - Reifenhäuser GmbH & Co. KG is making news in the wood-plastic components business and extrusion coating.
Reifenhäuser and wood-plastic specialist Kosche GmbH developed technology for that market, and six Reifenhäuser extrusion lines were installed at Kosche's factory in Hesse, Germany.
Kosche, of Much, Germany, uses Reifenhäuser's twin-screw extruder, the Bitruder, because they are equipped with special counter-rotating, intermeshing screws that are good for processing wood fibers and thermoplastics such as polyethylene or polypropylene.
Reifenhäuser adapts the screw geometry and wear resistance of the twin screws and barrels to the different combinations of wood and polymers.
Kosche builds its own dies. Its Kovatool brand has an integrated disc calibrator.
Kosche and Troisdorf-based Reifenhäuser are marketing the turnkey extrusion equipment to the wood-plastic market.
In other news, Reifenhäuser has signed an agreement with Italian printing and converting machinery maker Rotomec SpA. Reifenhäuser is now a preferred supplier of extruders integrated into Rotomec extrusion coating and laminating. Rotomec is based in San Giorgio Monterrato.
The extruder maker's U.S. unit, Reifenhauser Inc., is in Ipswich, Mass.
