As the head of global sourcing at Intertape Polymer Group, in Bradenton, Fla., Jim Bob Carpenter is responsible for the strategic sourcing of more than $400 million, on an annualized basis, of plastic resins, petrochemicals and paper products throughout the world. The publicly traded company, headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, produces specialized polyolefin and paper-based packaging products, as well as complementary packaging systems for industrial and retail use. Founded in 1981, Intertape employs about 3,000 in 15 manufacturing sites and 19 locations overall.
Previously, Carpenter served as president of the firm's woven (engineered coated products) and flexible intermediate bulk containers business units from 1998 through 2004.
Prior to joining Intertape, Carpenter was general manager of the polypropylene business at Fina Oil & Chemical Co. in Dallas. While at Fina, he also held the position of GM of sales and marketing for polyolefins, polystyrene and petrochemicals, along with various positions in business management, product management, sales management, logistics and raw materials.
Carpenter graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1979 with a bachelor of business administration degree in finance and completed advanced management training at Stanford University in 1997.
