Penn Color Inc. has developed eight standard PET tint color concentrates that don't require predrying.
The Doylestown, Pa., company said its Pennacle PET colorants are based on a solid, modified PET carrier resin, with colorants chosen for chemical compatibility, heat stability and minimal nucleation. Penn Color claims the concentrates, formulated with Food and Drug Administration-approved ingredients, provide vibrant colors with a recommended letdown ratio of 100-to-1.
Pennacle PET's carrier resin gives nearly complete viscosity retention in PET base resins, ensuring physical properties are maintained, claims Penn Color. The carrier resin compatibility also cuts down on other problems such as screw slippage and delamination that can occur with conventional liquid colors, and feed-throat melting possible with wax-based carriers. Penn Color aims its new products at single- and two-stage blow molding, sheet extrusion and thermoforming.
