WorldSource Inc. of Palm Desert, Calif., said Jan. 3 that it has acquired Los Angeles-based contract manufacturer Tubert International LLC for $6 million.
Specializing in metal and plastic processes, Tubert has production offices in Hong Kong and arrangements with Chinese operations in Ningbo, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Shanghai and elsewhere for importing, exporting and manufacturing products.
``We have a long-term affiliation with three large capital groups [and] export corporations in China,'' said Phillip Tubert, chief executive officer of Tubert International and executive vice president and business development director for WorldSource.
The firm's processes include injection molding, rotational molding, vacuum forming, machining and, in a low-tech, high-volume method, placing a heated plastic sheet over a form.
The firm primarily has worked in China since its formation in 1998 and has a sales representative in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
``As the global market changes, we will ... [lay] the groundwork for production in other Asian countries such as Vietnam and also in Eastern Europe,'' Tubert said in a phone interview.
Publicly traded WorldSource develops and distributes consumer products and now operates Tubert International as a subsidiary.
