Nylon Corp. of America is touting its barrier nanocomposite NanoSeal for wire and cable applications.
Originally targeted for small fuel tanks to meet stringent California emission standards, Nano¼Seal provides a high barrier to moisture, oxygen and hydrocarbons, according to the Manchester, N.H., firm. The material is made by polymerizing nylon with clay in a reactor to give high dispersion of clay platelets. Nano¼Seal with 3-8 percent clay loading provides barrier properties for wire and cable, fuel tanks, film and tubing.
Nycoa also said its Nycolastic thermoplastic elastomer based on nylon copolymer also is suited to wire and cable, imparting chemical and temperature resistance when used to protect PVC insulation.
