German automotive supplier Behr GmbH & Co. KG has expanded its operations in India.
Behr India Ltd. of Pune has invested $12 million in a new facility in Chakan, India, and plans to spend another $5 million by the end of 2007. Behr India is a joint venture between Stuttgart, Germany-based Behr GmbH and Anand Automotive Systems Ltd. of New Dehli.
The site will assemble heating and air conditioning units, engine cooling modules, radiators, air coolers, condensers and fan drive systems. Behr will not mold its own plastics at the site, but instead will rely on processors in the region to supply components.
The company expects to turn out $90 million worth of products this year and employ 400 people. By the end of 2010, Behr India anticipates boosting employment there by 50 percent.
