Laboratory and process equipment manufacturer Sartorius AG has acquired Toha Plast GmbH for an undisclosed sum. Both firms are based in Göttingen.
The takeover will help Sartorius realize its aim of becoming a leader in the rapidly expanding disposables market for biopharmaceutical production processes, according to the company.
Specialty medical molder Toha Plast employs 75 in Germany, where it has two clean rooms and operates 25 injection presses, mostly Arburgs, with clamping forces of 15-200 metric tons.
In July, Sartorius had purchased a small Toha Plast plant in Puerto Rico.
``For our further dynamic growth with disposables, plastics technology has a high strategic significance.
``For this reason, we intend to have this technology available and further develop it within our own group,'' said Sartorius Chief Executive Officer Joachim Kreuzburg.
Sartorius' biotechnology division focuses on filtration and separation products, as well as fermenters and bioreactors. Injection molded components are included in all its disposables, such as filters, bioreactors and fluid-handling bags.
Sartorius, which employs 3,750, has plants in Europe, Asia and North America.
