Medical injection molder Makuta Technics Inc. nearly doubled its space and production potential in a 30-mile move to Shelbyville, from Columbus, Ind., in December.
Makuta moved into an expandable, 20,000-square-foot facility on 4 acres from its previous 11,000-square-foot site.
The firm employs 16 and has 20 Sumitomo presses with clamping forces of 2-30 tons with proprietary slide mechanisms. In 2006, Makuto produced 35 million parts, some weighing 0.01 gram or less.
Sister company Sansyu Precision Ltd. of Takahama, Japan, makes the molds Makuta uses, and the firms share technology.
