Plasticolors Inc. of Ashtabula has completed an expansion that includes 4,200 square feet of lab space.
The 8,400-square-foot addition includes lab space with eight workstations, new office space, a conference room and a process development area. Pilot-scale milling and testing equipment are included in the process development area.
Previously, lab space had been scattered across several locations at the Plasticolors facility, marketing director Larry Haines said. Most of the equipment moved in to the expansion already was in use, but Haines said the firm did add several pieces of new equipment, including a dust-collection system.
By including process development work in the expansion, lab workers now can assure that new technologies can be reproduced and manufactured efficiently on a consistent scale, said technical director Selby Brannon.
Plasticolors did not disclose the cost of the expansion, which opened last month. The firm employs 150 and is a major supplier of pigment and chemical dispersions used in thermoset plastics, paint, coatings and other products.
The employee-owned business does not disclose annual sales figures.
