Specialty plastics and chemical maker Lanxess Corp. has opened a $5 million technology center at its headquarters in Pittsburgh.
The new center covers 100,000 square feet and has created 10 jobs, spokeswoman Terri Fitzpatrick said.
It combines the North American labs of the firm's material protection, functional chemicals and technical rubber products business units. Products made by those units include colorants and additives.
The site includes rooms for aging and mixing, analytical testing space and labs for biological testing, colorants and extruding.
Lanxess employs about 2,000 in North America and has annual sales of about $1 billion. It is a unit of Lanxess AG of Leverkusen, Germany, which has total worldwide annual sales of about $9 billion.
