Another Windsor mold maker is putting equipment up for auction.
The April 17 auction will take place at Impact Tool & Mould (Windsor) Inc.'s plant. Corporate Assets Inc. of Toronto will conduct it.
Key pieces for sale include Supermax computer numerically controlled vertical milling centers, a Prismatech graphite milling center and Novar CNC machining centers.
Impact Tool & Mould officials declined to comment on why the equipment is for sale. A Corporate Assets spokesman said the company voluntarily is putting the equipment up for auction.
A predecessor company, Impact Tool & Mould Inc., went into receivership last year after a business rival, Unique Tool & Gauge Inc., also of Windsor, won a C$600,000 (US$518,000) court judgment against Impact, according to a document from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada. The interim receiver sold Impact's assets and placed the firm in bankruptcy, which made Unique Tool its biggest unsecured creditor.
The receiver resold the assets to the same ownership group, which restarted the business under a new name, the document said.
Unique Tool President Robert King said his firm never collected on the judgment. He criticized the ease with which a firm can declare bankruptcy to avoid liabilities and then restart under a new name.
