Australia's Hardy Wine Co. Ltd. is marketing a combined plastic wine bottle and drinking glass.
The Shuttle is a single-serve, 5.6-ounce acrylic wine bottle with a fitted lid that serves as a wine glass.
Miriam Leenders, global marketing manager with Adelaide-based Hardy Wine, claims it is the first plastic wine bottle-glass combination, and added that there is strong market potential at event venues.
“The new technology has the potential to redefine how people drink wines, particularly at sporting events, concerts and performances where glassware is not permitted for safety reasons,” Leenders said.
The tamperproof bottle is opened by a twist-top action, which releases the glass to pour the wine into it.
“Shuttles are easy to store and will keep for 12 months, which is almost double the shelf life of current PET small-format bottles. Its unique design enables customers to be served more quickly and efficiently, which has the potential to optimize staffing and boost overall sales,” Leenders said.
