Crawford Industries LLC recently expanded its thin-gauge sheet capabilities at its Thomasville, Ga., plant with the installation of an XP Express roll stand from Davis-Standard LLC.
Crawford, which is headquartered in Crawfordsville, Ind., extrudes and converts graphic-quality polyethylene and polypropylene sheet for custom packaging and graphic arts customers.
The roll stand upgraded an older extrusion line, Thomasville plant manager John Nowotarski said, and enabled the company to boost the line's output by 120 percent. He added that the new stand also reduced the roll changeover time from 2-3 hours to 20 minutes.
Nowotarski said that the addition was primarily to expand the plant's thin-gauge sheet capacity. The XP Express was customized with a cooling fan and an offset top roll. It is used to process PP and PE thin-gauge sheet with a thickness range from .01-.045 inch.
Davis-Standard's extrusion systems are based in Pawcatuck, Conn.
