Modern Controls Inc. has opened a technical support office in Shanghai, establishing its first presence in Asia.
The Minneapolis company, known as Mocon, makes systems to test packaging materials, films and pharmaceutical products. Mocon has installed more than 100 of its units at Chinese customers' plants in the past 15 years, the company said in a news release.
As China develops its food, beverage and packaging facilities, interest in quality assurance is growing.
``We've seen firsthand that Chinese companies want their technology to match the rest of the developed world. Consumers there are now starting to demand the same quality and safety levels that are found in the West,'' said Robert Demorest, Mocon's president and chief executive officer.
The Shanghai office, starting with a regional sales manager and a service engineer, will support instruments for permeation testing, head-space analysis and leak detection in food, beverage, pharmaceutical and medical applications.
Mocon also has a European sales and manufacturing facility near Koblenz, Germany.
