Priamus System Technologies LLC has developed a mold cavity temperature sensor that it claims is the world's smallest, called the 4009A/4010A.
The small size is necessary for the sensor to react fast enough for real-time controls. The delay time from when the melt reaches the sensor until the sensor sends a switching signal cannot exceed a few milliseconds, because otherwise, valve gates or core pullers react too late.
According to Priamus of Bruns¼wick, Ohio, it does not make sense to use combined pressure/ temperature sensors because they must be separated — cavity pressure is always near the gate, and cavity temperature is usually near the end of the fill, or another area used for control purposes.
Priamus said another temperature sensor, type 4011A/4012A, has the same tiny front diameter as the 4009A/4010A, but a longer measuring body, so it can be used for extremely small mounting proportions.
