Two Society of Plastics Engineers International divisions will award two 2007 graduate-level scholarships, each worth $2,000, in honor of the late Steve Loud.
The scholarships for polymer matrix composites work are intended to focus on automotive or other ground-transportation applications and recognize Loud's legacy over his 43-year career as an advocate for market development and use of advanced materials and processes.
June 30 is the deadline for filing an application, available at the SPE Web page www.speautomotive.com/comp.htm.
Troy-based SPE's automotive and composites divisions will announce the scholarship winners in early August and recognize the individuals at the jointly produced SPE Automotive Composites Conference and Exhibition, set for Sept. 11-13 in Troy. A portion of proceeds from last year's event will fund the 2007 scholarships.
Loud promoted composites across numerous industrial segments, through conference presentations, and print and electronic trade newsletters that he and his wife, Susan, published. Loud, who lived in Solana Beach, Calif., died July 21.
