Plastic has entered the cooling tower market.
Delta Cooling Towers Inc. of Rockaway, N.J., has developed polyethylene cooling towers as an alternative to galvanized metal towers. The plastic will not rust, chip, flake, peel or require paint or other protective coatings. Also, plastic towers cannot be damaged by excessive calcium caused by high pH.
The company said one satisfied customer is Tulip Corp., an injection molder of automotive battery cases, covers and venting systems. Tulip installed the towers at its Milwaukee plant.
Another advantage is Delta's use of direct-drive fan motors, with an impeller directly on the motor, making them more energy efficient and easier to maintain.
The line of towers comes with a 15-year warranty.
