Interplex Industries Inc., which does injection molding, precision metal stamping, metal etching, and coating and finishing, purchased an automation house, the firm announced April 30.
Flushing, N.Y.-based Interplex bought Automation Specialists LLC of Warwick, R.I. Terms were not disclosed.
The new company name is Interplex Automation Inc.
Brian Tracey, Interplex group vice president of business development, said his company bought Automation Specialists to improve Interplex's own manufacturing operations. As Interplex Automation, the Rhode Island operation also will continue to offer its services to outside customers, he said.
Automation Specialists makes custom-designed assembly equipment, from single-station work cells to fully automatic robot assembly systems. Its products include equipment for rotary handling and rotary-dial and cam-operated automation.
``Automated assembly is a natural complement to our existing product development and component manufacturing services,'' said Jack Seidler, Interplex president and chief executive officer.
