Using Gienkee Plas Center in Shanghai as a launching pad, Avalon Vision Solutions LLC of Atlanta recently opened its first China-based office.
The office was established in March to serve clients that already have operations in China, said Ed Kachnic, Avalon chief executive officer.
``They were all saying, `See you in China, if you show up,''' Kachnic said of his client base. ``I came to Chinaplas last year knowing that, one way or another, I had to set up in China.''
Avalon produces a series of cameras made to provide continuous inspection of plastic molding machines. If a machine malfunctions, the cameras are designed to recognize a problem and shut down operations before any damage is done.
``This is a pretty new technology for China,'' Kachnic said. ``I think a lot of people here know there's a need to embrace it.''
Avalon currently has one representative in the Shanghai office, but plans to continue building its presence in China.
``There are so many companies and opportunities out here,'' Kachnic said.
