PolyOne Corp. is adding capacity at its three Chinese compounding plants, as it unveils new bioadditive and colorant products to the Chinese market.
The company plans to add two compounding lines at Shenzhen, and in Shanghai, and another line at Suzhou, company officials said at Chinaplas, held May 21-24 in Guangzhou.
The Avon Lake, Ohio-based company also unveiled a line of bio-based additives and colorants for use in biodegradable polymers like polylactic acid and polyhydroxybutyrate valerate copolymer, in applications such as packaging, garbage and shopping bags, and bottles and caps.
Willie Chien, general manager for Asia, declined to say what the additives are made of, but said they work with a range of bio-based polymers, including starch blends.
``We developed these new colorants and additives in direct response to requests from our customers around the world for products based on sustainable materials,'' said Steven Chan, sales and marketing director for color and additive products in Asia.
The company also introduced to Asia an improved line of liquid colorants, called PicoTint, using a polymer-based carrier instead of a traditional oil or surfactant-based carrier. The products are heat and light stable. The company said the colorants have improved weatherability and shelf life, and customers can use liquid colorants instead of pre-colored resins or masterbatches.
