Negri Bossi USA Inc. will move to a larger building in Delaware so it can show machines with larger clamping forces, general manager Liam Burns announced at the Antec conference and Plastics Encounter trade show.
In an interview May 10, Burns said the board of directors of Milan, Italy-based Negri Bossi SpA approved the investment the week before. By October or November, he said, Negri Bossi USA will move from its current 10,000-square-foot headquarters facility in Newark, Del., into a 16,000-square-foot building 10 miles away in New Castle, Del. The new building will have a 40-ton crane. The old site did not have a crane.
``It will allow us to hold up to 1,500-ton machines. Our present building allows us to have up to 700 tons,'' Burns said. Negri Bossi is leasing the new building, which is under construction.
He said the Italian press maker has been emphasizing larger injection presses in the past few years. The company tops out at 6,600 tons.
Burns said Negri Bossi employs 16 people in Delaware and at Negri Bossi Inc. (Canada) in Mississauga, Ontario. Negri Bossi USA recently hired two more service representatives in California and Georgia.
Plastics News' Plastics Encounter was held in Cincinnati together with Antec, the Society of Plastics Engineers' annual conference.
At the show, Negri Bossi was molding small ice cream dishes on a 135-ton, all-electric Canbel press, with direct-drive powering the clamp unit. Negri Bossi also announced statistical process control now is standard on its Dimi 2000 controller.
