Macon, Miss.-based Outdoor Technologies Inc. is expanding its operations into a second extrusion plant, in Plant City, Fla.
The vinyl fence, deck and railing products extruder is refurbishing a 70,000-square-foot building and installing four new extruders and a compounding line.
The plant will be operational in the fall, said Bob McGrath, Outdoor Technologies' vice president of sales and marketing, in a June 15 telephone interview.
``We're looking at a more regional expansion model as we grow our business, instead of just growing out the Macon facility,'' McGrath said.
Outdoor Technologies, a unit of Perrysburg, Ohio-based Jancor Cos. Inc., employs about 225 in Macon, and will start with about 30 in Florida.
Jancor recently acquired the vinyl siding operations of Elk Grove Village, Ill.-based Rollex Corp. to supplement Jancor's vinyl siding division, which comprises Heartland Building Products Inc. in Booneville, Miss., and Infinite Building Products Inc. in Olive Branch, Miss.
Some of the compounding equipment acquired in the Rollex deal is being transferred to the new Florida plant.
Jancor's fencing sales have taken off in Florida, McGrath said, since it introduced its high-velocity wind-zone fence products in 2006.
Expansion to other areas in the near future is not out of the question.
``As we need to expand our business, it just makes sense to look at regional opportunities as we go forward,'' McGrath said.
