Century Products LLC has granted Ameren Energy Fuels and Services Co. (AFS) a license to develop, manufacture and sell polyurethane composite railroad ties made using its LifeTime Lumber technology.
LifeTime technology combines PU with recycled fly ash, providing a mix of strength, weight and flexibility, as well as resistance to water absorption, mold, mildew and rot, according to Century.
``We are excited to work with AFS to develop an eco-friendly composite railroad tie,'' said John Taylor, president of St. Louis-based Century Products, in a news release.
Mike Mueller, president of Encintas-based AFS, added, ``Not only are the LifeTime Lumber ties better for the environment, but we feel they can also help to improve the efficiency and economics'' of railway operations through their longer service life.
Formed in 2002, Century Products has been working on LifeTime Lumber for several years. It makes and sells the boards for use in residential and commercial decking and fencing markets.
