Novatec Inc. introduced its see-through GlassVu loaders and receivers at Plastics Encounter at Antec 2007.
The cylindrical loaders, receivers and machine-mount hoppers all have large, wrap-around midsections made of glass to give a clear view of the filling process. Loaders and receivers have slanted lids that allow full access to the interior, without disturbing material or vacuum lines.
Baltimore-based Novatec also made some design changes to improve material discharge, access for draining and cleanout and simplified installation.
Flat bottoms provide large openings for resin evacuation. Slanted bottom panels inside the loaders and receivers are pneumatically opened and closed, so they function as slide-gate valves for efficient discharge. An infrared sensor shines across the discharge opening to provide “full” or “demand” signals to the controller.
Novatec also has designed a glass hopper base. The hopper is contained within a sturdy frame. But instead of being bolted in, the hopper pivots out of the frame — like the filter unit on a coffee maker —- for easy drainage of residual material.
Chuck Morgan, resin handling business director, said the straight walls of the loaders and receivers extend all the way down to the discharge area, eliminating the narrow section of cone-shaped units that can cause bridging problems.
