Intermediate bulk container maker Greif Inc. of Delaware has opened an industrial packaging plant in Kazan, Russia.
The plant is roughly 37,000 square feet, said spokeswoman Deb Strohmaier. It currently produces IBCs and by year-end 2008 will make plastic canisters and steel drums on Rikutec blow molding equipment. The plant will employ nearly 100 by that time, the company said.
``Russia continues to be an important growth market for Greif,'' said Michael Gasser, chairman, chief executive officer and president, in a news release. ``Our new Kazan operation adds the new element of IBCs to our existing Russian product portfolio of steel drums and water bottles.''
For its fiscal year ended Oct. 31, Greif reported sales in its industrial packaging segment of $1.9 billion, compared with $1.8 billion in 2005.
