Mold components supplier D-M-E Co. is closing its Melrose Park, Ill., manufacturing operations and consolidating production at three other North American sites.
The move, which will cut 40 jobs, will improve efficiency, said Dave Lawrence, president of Madison Heights-based D-M-E, in an August telephone interview.
The firm will consolidate hot-runner production at its CMI site in Windsor, Ontario. Specialty mold-base production will shift to its Master Unit Die facility in Greenville, Mich., while D-M-E's Youngwood, Pa., site will take over standard mold bases.
The production shifts will take place over the next several months, the company said.
D-M-E will have a sales and distribution office in the Chicago area, employing four to five people. The company is looking at potential sites for that office.
