DuPont Engineering Polymers is debuting several new elastomer grades to meet demand for soft oil- and heat-resistant materials.
The Wilmington, Del., unit of DuPont Co. has three new grades of ETPV engineering thermoplastic vulcanizate that withstand vehicle under-the-hood conditions and high-temperature industrial uses. As well, the materials show high processing stability in extrusion and blow molding. Envisioned applications include hose and tubing, blow molded air ducts and injection molded seals and body plugs. Two grades are black heat-stabilized types; the other is a standard natural grade for less-demanding uses.
In DuPont's Hytrel thermoplastic polyester elastomer line, a new, softer grade with improved heat resistance is available. It has hardness of Shore A 80 and is rated for 302° F service, about 68° F higher than most Hytrel grades.
