Teknor Apex is compounding new Uniprene and Monprene grades that don't contain animal-derived materials, or ADMs, such as beef tallow-based lubricants. The compounds are aimed to comply with European and U.S. Food and Drug Administration directives on preventing spread of the disease.
Medical tubing, syringe tips, toothbrushes, ear plugs and food packaging seals are among the products that could benefit from non-ADMs content elastomers, according to the Pawtucket, R.I., company.
Teknor Apex offers five Uniprene themoplastic vulcanizates without ADMs, in Shore A hardnesses of 45-80. Four of its Monprene TPEs, based on styrenic tri-block copolymers, avoid ADMs and have Shore A hardness values of 38-65.
