Milliken Chemical reports that its Hyperform HPN-20E has been granted food-contact notification by the Food and Drug Administration, allowing broad use in polyethylene film food packaging.
The Spartanburg, S.C., firm said a wider range of applications now can rely on the nucleating agent that improves clarity, physical properties, barrier and seal performance. The product provides a trigger point at the molecular level around which crystalline structures called spherulites form rapidly.
Milliken also said it installed an in-house blown film line at its Spartanburg applications laboratory. The single-screw line can help product development for PE and polypropylene films. In other research news, Milliken said it is looking at using nucleating agents to reduce cycle time in blow molded high density PE.
