Quadrant Group of Zurich, Switzerland, has added an ultrahigh-temperature grade of polytetrafluoroethylene in its Fluorosint lineup.
The new high-production-volume grade is aimed at applications that demand high wear resistance and low friction, as in seals and bearings. It can operate in temperatures ranging from -464° F to 500° F.
Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products, with a U.S. location in Reading, Pa., makes the product available in rod, tube and sheet and also can supply it in near net-shape form. The new grade has Rockwell hardness of R54.
The Fluorosint line uses specialty processing and compositions to give the materials lower friction properties and higher dimensional stability than conventional reinforced PTFE, according to Quadrant.
