Royal DSM NV is increasing its engineering compounds capacity by 50 percent for the second year in a row to accommodate the firm's growing customer base in Asia.
``Currently we have an estimated [sales] turnover of above $900 million in China. We have a target of $1.5 billion in 2010,'' said Nelleke Barning, senior communications manager.
Expanding the company's site in Jiangyin, China, will meet rapid growth in Asian demand for several years, officials said. The Jiangyin plant makes Stanyl and Akulon nylon, Arnite polybutylene terephthalate and PET, and Arnitel thermoplastic elastomers. The location also boasts a research and development center for engineering plastics.
The site was renovated last year, and DSM is constructing another plant on the site to produce Akulon nylon 6. The new plant will draw feedstock from DSM Nanjing Chemical Co., a joint venture with China's state-owned chemical and petroleum company, Sinopec. Both the new facility and the added capacity are set to come on-line in 2008.
Herleen-based DSM has sales of 8 billion euros ($11.7 billion).
