Steve Crowhurst will join Crain Communications Inc. in Croydon Jan. 2 as publishing and events director for the European plastics publishing operations that Crain acquired from Emap Communications Ltd. in July. He will have responsibility for Plastics & Rubber Weekly, European Plastics News, the Plastics Design & Moulding exhibition and related conferences.
Crowhurst succeeds Andy Beevers, who will leave in mid-January to become the managing director of London-based Charterhouse Communications plc, a publicly listed company with magazines and information products for the mortgage and investment sectors.
Crowhurst, 48, has extensive magazine and event experience. For the past 6½ years he served as publisher of Emap Maclaren's Materials Recycling Week magazine and event director for the Recycling & Waste Management exhibition in Birmingham, England.
During this period, he also was a member of the Emap Maclaren board alongside Beevers. He was involved with PRW, EPN and the PDM show in an executive capacity prior to their acquisition by Crain earlier this year to form the Plastics News Global Group.
``I am delighted to be joining Crain's plastics business at this exciting time,'' said Crowhurst. ``The acquisition has created a truly global group with strong positions in Europe, America and Asia, which can only help to further develop the business. I am also looking forward to working with the highly talented and experienced editorial and sales teams who I know very well from our time together at Emap.''
Tony Eagan, Crain vice president and group publishing director for the Plastics News Global Group, said: ``Steve brings a huge amount of experience to the business. He has started and run his own successful publishing company in the automotive sector, and with Emap he gained valuable knowledge of the exhibition, conference and online markets.''
Beevers, 44, will be leaving the plastics business after almost 16 years. He joined as editor of EPN in 1992 and became publishing and events director in 2002.
