Packaging Specialties Inc. is setting up a third film printing plant to better reach Western U.S. markets.
The firm has chosen Burley, Idaho, for a 25,000-square-foot printing operation that can serve Western states as well as locations in the middle of the country. Packaging Specialties is based in Fayetteville, Ark., and runs a plant in Gainesville, Ga.
Robert Farrell, Packaging Specialties chief executive officer, said the Burley plant will start out with two 10-color flexographic printing presses supplied by Paper Converting Machinery Co. of Green Bay, Wis. The plant is due to start up in April or May and will start with 25 to 28 workers, he said in a telephone interview. Farrell did not disclose the cost of the project.
Farrell said his company prints on a range of rollstock that is then sold to converters. Packaging Specialties buys PVC, polyolefin, polystyrene and other rollstock for printing. It decided long ago to leave film extrusion to experts and prefers to buy its raw materials.
