Companies looking for archived information about the plastics industry now have the option of searching the catalog of the Doyle Library and Archives of the National Plastics Center online.
Online access to the noncirculating research library enables NPC to share its information, documents, photographs and other resources with an international audience, as well as others who are unable to visit NPC in Leominster.
Online searches are free to members of NPC and the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc., which has provided management services to NPC since June 2006. SPI is based in Washington. Nonmember online search charges are $10 a day for adults and $5 for students.
The material can't be downloaded. But NPC will pull the material for a scheduled visit during library hours, or copy it at a cost of 50 cents per page.
The NPC staff will even research topics for $20 an hour.
Nearly 400 people have conducted online searches since the service became available July 19 - including researchers from China, Finland, Vietnam, India and Mexico - by visiting www.plasticscenter.org.
Previously, library visitors did not have access to archived materials.
