(Jan. 4, 2008) — It didn't take long after the Dec. 17 edition of Plastics News hit the mail slots before concerns were expressed about the closing of our tooling operation [“Tech restructuring, closing Pa. tool facility”].
I would hope that most people realize that the lead story on Page 1 of that issue was about Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Tech Group Inc. closing its tool shop in Erie, Pa.
But still, the rumor hit that our firm “Tech” was possibly closing the tooling division. The adage that “my death has been greatly exaggerated” came to mind.
Please note that Tech Tool & Molded Plastics (including our Tech Molded Plastics LP molding unit and our related tooling operation) is very much alive. We continue to produce high-precision injection molds and complex molded plastics in northwest Pennsylvania.
Tech Molded Plastics LP is located just south of Erie in the town of Meadville and is not affiliated with Tech Group. The news story was clear, and should have been self-explanatory, but due to the similarity of company names, the headline spurred confusion. Thank you for the opportunity to clarify.
