Dr. Seetha Coleman-Kammula left her post as senior vice president of Basell Polyolefins in 2005 to found an environmentally focused management consulting firm with her husband, Dr. Brian Coleman. The Newark, Del.-based Simply Sustain LLC aims to guide companies to be profitable by doing business in ways that benefit both the environment and society. They advise and consult with companies throughout the petrochemical value chain as well as with industry associations.
Coleman-Kammula is affiliated with the SoL Sustainability Consortium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Society for Organizational Learning, which brings companies together to exchange experiences and stories of their change efforts. She also is a member of Dow Chemical Co.'s corporate environmental advisory council.
After earning a bachelor of science degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India, and a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from Auburn University in Alabama, Coleman-Kammula served as a post-doctorate research scholar at Princeton University, where she was also an instructor in organic chemistry. After a year as a NATO Research Scholar at the University of Amsterdam, she joined Royal Dutch/Shell in Amsterdam in 1978 as a senior research associate, where she worked for the next decade.
From 1988-2000 Coleman-Kammula held various business, technology, strategy and merger-and-acquisition posts for Shell Chemical Co. and affiliated companies in England, Belgium and Houston. In 2000 she joined Basell, a joint venture between Shell and BASF, and for the next five years served as senior vice president for strategic marketing, innovation and asset management. In addition she was a member of the board of directors of Indelpro, a Basell/Alfa joint venture in Mexico.
