Eurotherm Inc. has added the IntelliMold process to its Maco Compact controller for injection molding machines.
Eurotherm, of Leesburg, Va., is marketing the Maco Compact as a competitively priced programmable logic controller with the same advantages of an integrated, total machine controller, in a small package. The controller can be expanded for specific application requirements. It supports open- or closed-loop process control.
The Maco Compact is the first machine controller to incorporate IntelliMold as a standard feature, Eurotherm said. It also is available in a pre-engineered, stand-alone package.
IntelliMold, developed by MGV Enterprises LLC, uses transducers to measure melt pressure continuously at the nozzle and the last point of fill for instant adjustments to the press — improving cycle times, cutting energy costs and giving real-time control over the part, from shot to shot, Eurotherm said. It makes adjustments to screw velocity, to maintain melt pressures specified by material suppliers.
Other new control products include a method for industrial blow molding that synchronizes the plastic filled and shot from the two accumulators on a two-sided machine, even when press is set up to run two different parts with different shot sizes.
Also for blow molding, a parison-only controller called the Maco Breeze II provides consistent wall thickness and less material consumption and scrap. It combines a four-slot enclosed chassis with an Optima Touch 12.1-inch display. The pre-engineered parison controller can be retrofitted to a range of machines.
In extrusion, Eurotherm introduced the EM-3c Extrusion Master for small extruders. The controller can run temperature and pressure, or control the complete extrusion line, including line speed. It uses the Optima Touch display and can be specified on new extruders, or as a retrofit.
